Nutritional Therapy is a holistic, individualized approach to health and healing. This is carried out through a personalized protocol of diet, supplementation, and lifestyle adjustments that maximize your potential for vibrant health. In today's world, stress and inadequate nutrition are the primary source of most health issues. These factors cause imbalances in the body’s physiological foundations: digestion, blood sugar, mineral balance, fatty acid balance, and hydration. Nutritional therapy looks at the big picture to find the underlying cause of your health issues, rather than symptoms alone.
The body has an innate intelligence of its own nutritional needs, and I often use a functional evaluation to help my clients reconnect with that innate intelligence. This is a gentle, hands-on assessment of your body's organs and systems to identify areas of imbalance. It may also include lingual-neuro testing to determine your individual nutrient needs. The body is often capable of correcting itself, if done with patience and the proper tools (i.e. nutrients) for doing so.
I believe in bio-individuality; there is no “one size fits all” approach to diet. While some people may thrive on a diet high in fats, for others the decrease in carbohydrates can be detrimental. There is no one perfect diet. I don't believe in counting grams, calories, points, or ounces. Instead, I teach clients to use nutrient-dense whole foods and intuitive eating to best support their individual makeup, enhancing their capacity to heal.
The ability to properly digest the nutrients we are consuming is as important as nourishing with real food. Without proper digestion nutrients cannot be fully absorbed and used appropriately by the myriad of systems and functions within the body. In the same vein, stress has a negative impact on our ability to digest. Slowing down to eat in a relaxed, parasympathetic state allows our body to rest and digest.
I feel it's important to understand how the food and health stories that we've experienced in our life impact our own relationship with food and health. I believe in setting health goals that inform the choices we make towards our own healing. When we focus on using food to restore and heal, the results can be quite profound.
